Legendary Pictures is moving 'Skull Island' from Universal to Warner Bros. because the production house wants to put the giant ape and the fire-breathing reptile into one movie.

AceShowbiz - Putting characters from two different movies into one feature film seems to be a promising strategy in movie industry. Deadline breaks the news that Legendary Pictures wants to make a King Kong vs. Godzilla movie as the production house is moving "Kong: Skull Island" from Universal to Warner Bros..

The studio move is an effort to keep the gigantic beasts under the same distributor so things will be easier to do. According to the site, the crossover movie is happening very quickly with moves going all the way to Japan, where Godzilla rights holder Toho is based.

While there is no deal yet between Legendary and Warner Bros., "Skull Island" keeps moving forward and now is in the pre-production stage. The details of the film are still scarce, but sources said that the story would be set in the mysterious, dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the island.

Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston and Corey Hawkins are in the cast. Other names such as Jason Mitchell, Toby Kebbell, Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly and Tom Wilkinson are also being considered to star in the movie. Set to feature the origin story of Kong, "Skull Island" is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on March 10, 2017.
