'I took it more to a soulful, gospel kind of sound,' she teases how the song, which is aptly titled 'Father', will sound like.

AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato will have a very personal song on her upcoming album, "Confident". In a new interview with Billboard, the former Disney darling revealed that she'd recorded a tribute track to her dad Patrick Lovato who died of cancer back in 2013.

The song is aptly titled "Father" and was the last one Lovato recorded for the follow-up to 2013's "Demi". "I'm particularly excited for this song," the 23-year-old pop star said. "I get very, very honest about the passing of my dad."

She went on teasing what the song would sound like. "My fans expect me to be honest, [but] what I think that people in general aren't going to expect is the way that I sing the song. I took it more to a soulful, gospel kind of sound," she explained. "It's the song that I think I might be most proud of on the album."

"Confident" is due out on October 16. The LP is led by "Cool for the Summer" which peaked at No. 16 on Billboard Hot 100. Loyal Lovatics, however, must have known that the hit wasn't supposed to be released as the first single.

" 'Cool for the Summer' actually wasn't going to be my first single - it was actually going to be [title track] 'Confident'," Lovato told Billboard of the change. "But 'Cool for the Summer', you can't really release in October, so we were like, 'Okay, you know what? I think we have a change of plans, and we'll go with 'Cool for the Summer'.' It was really spontaneous but it worked, and I'm super excited with the way that things have played out so far."
