Screenwriter Scott Derrickson Hints at Possible 'Sinister 3'
Movie

The writer teases that a sequel to 'Sinister 2' may happen, saying that he loves to do more 'Sinister' films.

AceShowbiz - While the U.S. release of horror movie "Sinister 2" approaches, a speculation about the future of the harrowing movie has surfaced. Screenwriter Scott Derrickson hinted that the movie starring Shannyn Sossamon might get a follow-up.

During the production of the second installment of "Sinister" movie series, the writer joined director Ciraran Foy and cast members Sossamon and James Ransone for a roundtable interview with some journalists. One of the participants in the interview asked Derrickson about the possibility that he would make the series become a trilogy.

The writer admitted that he would love to do more "Sinister" films, but the second movie has to perform really well before making other follow-ups. "Sure, yeah, I'd like there to be ten of them, but it really depends on how this turns out and how it does," he said.

Derrickson also opened up about the obstacle he had when penning the script for "Sinister 2" with co-writer Cargill Robert. "The reason the script took so long was because both [co-screenwriter C.Robert] Cargill and I have seen so many horror franchises - you know, we're really familiar with how they tend to work and what the bad tendencies are. And so we were both really committed to writing the kind of horror sequel we would like to see, and that proved to be a lot more difficult than I think either of us were expecting," Derrickson explained.

If the third movie is greenlit, it seems like Derrickson has to come up with a fresh story in order to gain fans' interests. There is a speculation that the iconic demon Bughuul will no longer be involved in the possible sequel.

"It just felt like if we were going to do it, we had to hold ourselves up to that standard, and the trick of it was finding a different point of view to get into it, because the horror sequels that I have really liked tend to expand the mythology but also deepen your appreciation of the original in unique ways that give you some elements that you loved from the first one but they also surprise you," Derricksom explained his future plan.
