Evangeline Lilly Reveals Hope van Dyne's Metamorphosis During the 'Ant-Man' Rewrites
Movie

The actress who plays van Dyne revealed that there were some changes her character went through during the rewrite process, saying that the recent version's more 'human.'

AceShowbiz - While "Ant-Man" won't hit U.S. theaters until July 17, news about the shrinking superhero movie keeps coming out. This time, Evangeline Lilly revealed the metamorphosis her character went through during the rewrites of the script.

The previous screenwriter, Edgar Wright, decided to split with Marvel and left the project. Some changes were made when Adam McKay and Paul Rudd teamed up to rewrite the script. In an interview with Cinema Blend, Lilly opened up that in previous script, her character, Hope van Dyne, was a little bit different from the character which would be shown in the forthcoming movie.

She admitted that there was a part that she loved in the previous script written by Wright. "Originally she was a very sort of film noir kind of character. She was almost, like what you would expect out of a legit graphic novel or a comic book - which I loved, by the way," Lilly said. "I was sold. I was like, 'Yes, this is going to be so much fun to play a real caricature, almost, of this woman!' " she added.

According to Lilly, although there were some changes to the character, van Dyne would still have the same "skeleton" as its previous depiction. McKay and Rudd's rewrites wound up softening some of the harder edges.

"What really ended up happening with the rewrites is I think she just developed more dimensions and more humanity, became a little bit more relatable, little bit more accessible, a little less of sort of untouchable caricature and more of a human caricature," Lilly explained.

Directed by Peyton Reed, "Ant-Man" follows the titular character who has the ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength. He has to help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, to protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Rudd leads the cast which also includes Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll and Bobby Cannavale.
