Melissa McCarthy Defends Plus-Size Women: 'People Don't Stop at Size 12'
Celebrity

'People don't stop at size 12. I feel like there's a big thing missing where you can't dress to your mood above a certain number,' Melissa told More magazine.

AceShowbiz - Melissa McCarthy stood up up for plus-size women in a recent interview with More magazine for its June issue. Addressing women's body size issues, the comedienne apparently wanted to put an end to body shaming against big-size women.

"People don't stop at size 12," Melissa shared with the magazine. "I feel like there's a big thing missing where you can't dress to your mood above a certain number. [Malls] segregate plus-size [women]. It's an odd thing that you can't go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. We'll put you gals over there because we don't want to see you and you probably don't want to be seen."

The "Spy" actress added, "There is just this weird thing about how we perceive women in this country. I would love to be a part of breaking that down."

Melissa is about to launch her own fashion line Melissa McCarthy Seven7 in August. The clothing collection which consists of at least 80 pieces is specifically designed for women ranging from sizes 4 to 28.

She admitted during the interview that her new job as designer was, in fact, time consuming. "It's pretty consuming," she said. "My problem is, I don't hand things off very well. I just figure if it has my name on it and I want to make people feel good about wearing it, I can't pass it off."

Melissa said that, at first, her intense involvement in the project surprised her manufacturing partner, Sunrise Brands. "The initial thought was, I may or may not go to meetings," she explained. "And then I started delivering drawings and saying, 'No, this is the length, this is the arm measurement,' and they were like, 'Um, we kinda didn't think you'd be here.' "

In the interview, the "Bridesmaids" star also addressed her feminist philosophy, personal life and also praised her daughter for her polite disposition.
