Jennifer Lopez may add a new title of the inspiration for Google Images to her long list of achievements. In a recent essay, Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt revealed that the prolific singer inspired Google to create Google Images after she debuted her now-iconic green Versace Grammy dress.
Jennifer sported the sheer, stunning, plunging, palm tree-printed dress at the 2000 Grammy Awards. The gown caught everyone's attention including the giant search engine's.
"People wanted more than just text. This first became apparent after the 2000 Grammy Awards, where Jennifer Lopez wore a green dress that, well, caught the world's attention," Eric revealed in an essay on Project Syndicate.
"At the time, it was the most popular search query we had ever seen. But we had no surefire way of getting users exactly what they wanted: J-Lo wearing that dress. Google Image Search was born," Eric went on sharing.
The gown's creator, Donatella Versace, also got more popular due to the masterpiece. "It was an unexpected success," she told Canadian Press back in 2008. "The next day Jennifer was all over the place with people talking about her in that dress. It was one of those moments like Gianni had with Elizabeth Hurley and the safety-pin dress."
After hearing the news, Jennifer took to Instagram to share her look at the prestigious award, captioning it, "WHO KNEW!! #onepersoncanchangetheworld #onedresscanchangetheworld #jlo+versace=history #positivechange #funfacts LOL."
