It seems that the fake sequels shown at the end of "22 Jump Street" are not just for joke. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller said they would make those end-credit gags "canon," which means they will be part of the story in the next installment.

Lord teased what's next in the franchise during a chat with Topless Robot at the WonderCon, "We've found a way that we love that makes those imagined sequels canonical and yet does something that we haven't told you about yet. The sequels are canon."

"22 Jump Street" shows all the possible stories they could explore in the next movie like "23 Jump Street: Medical School", "24 Jump Street: Foreign Exchange Students", and "29 Jump Street: Sunday School" where Jonah Hill is replaced by Seth Rogen. Hill later returns for "31 Jump Street: Ninja Academy" and continues all the way up to the outer space-set "2121 Jump Street".

Rodney Rothman from the second movie is set to return to write script for the threequel. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to produce it, but it's unclear if they will reprise their roles behind the lens.

When previously confirming Rothman's return, Lord did drop a hint at their plan to incorporate all those fake sequels. Speaking to New York Times, the director said of the screenwriter, "He had a really outrageous idea for what to do, and how we could take our scorched-earth sequel policy from the end of '22 Jump Street' and do something that hadn't been explored in those 22 sequels and simultaneously tell the next chapter in the story."

In a Sony leaked email exchange, it's previously revealed that Jonah Hill pitched an idea to do a "Men in Black" crossover for the "21 Jump Street" franchise, but the plan hasn't been approved. "We don't have a script yet so we'll be greenlighting the movie off the concept and the talent involved," a Sony executive responded.
