AceShowbiz - After portraying Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything", Eddie Redmayne is now playing a transgender pioneer in a new drama. The first photo from the movie "The Danish Girl" which arrived online on Thursday, February 26 sees the Oscar-winning actor sporting a green dress and red lipstick.

In the upcoming movie directed by Tom Hooper, Redmayne plays Danish-born artist Einar Wegener who is known as one of the first people who underwent sex reassignment surgery. The painter was later known as Lili Elbe. The movie, which also stars Alicia Vikander and Amber Heard, is set for release later this year.

As reported by Daily Mail, the "Les Miserables" star has been working with movement director Alexandra Reynolds since January to prepare for the role. "We're looking at everything from a feminine perspective. How to sit, to walk, to pose, roll on a pair of stockings. How to put on a pair of heels - and how to walk in them. Everything," the actor shared.

The 33-year-old actor also talked about Wegener who underwent the surgery in the 1930s. "The danger of surgery was so extreme then. It's such a brave thing that Einar did," he said.
