The former 'Saturday Night Live' star and his wife are divorcing after 18 years of marriage.

AceShowbiz - Chris Rock and his wife Malaak Compton-Rock are divorcing after 18 years of marriage. The news was announced in a statement released by Malaak on Sunday, December 28 and followed by a statement from Chris' lawyer confirming that his client filed for divorce.

"After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways," Malaak wrote, "Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life's blessings, even when faced with difficulties."

The founder and executive director of the non-profit StyleWorks continued, "While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the center of my life and their well-being is my top priority. It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives."

Chris' lawyer Robert S. Cohen said in a statement, "Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife, Malaak. This is a personal matter and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family."

Chris and Malaak tied the knot on November 23, 1996. They are parents to two daughters, 12-year-old Lola Simone and 10-year-old Zahra Savannah.

The "Top Five" actor was previously rumored to be divorcing Malaak in 2006. The pair slammed the rumor in a joint statement back then, calling it "untrue rumors and lies." At that time, they said, "We remain, as always, very happy and committed to our marriage and the beautiful family that we have built."
