Mourning the death of his brother-in-law, Luke Bryan decided to cancel his CMT Artists of the Year appearance on Tuesday, December 2 night. The last minute cancellation was confirmed by the country star's representative who told People that he would remain with family in Georgia.

Bryan was due to perform and get honored at the event. His brother-in-law Ben Lee Cheshire died on Saturday, November 29 at the age of 46. Cheshire is the husband of Bryan's later sister Kelly who died in 2007 when she was only 39 years old. The couple are survived by three teenage children, Jordan, Chris and Til.

According to Cheshire's obituary in the Albany Herald, his funeral was held on Tuesday with Bryan co-officiating.

Bryan had also lost his only brother a decade ago. His older brother Chris died at the age of 26 due to car accident. "Losing my brother changed me tremendously and losing Kelly, even more," the singer told People Country in 2013. "I literally do not take one second for granted."
