'Wonder Woman' Offered to Mystery Female Director

'Punisher: War Zone' director Lexi Alexander said she heard Warner Bros. Studios had made an offer to another female director.

AceShowbiz - Warner Bros. is actively looking for a director for "Wonder Woman" but is not turning their heads on the male ones. It has been reported that the studio has been making an offer to a particular female director after shedding names on the list.

In an interview, director Lexi Alexander said she was on the list but heard that the offer had been made to another female director. "If she says yes, everybody will be very happy, including me," Alexander said.

But the "Punisher: War Zone" director pitied the person selected because she would be highly-scrutinized. "Still, I don't see at this point why anyone would say yes. There is huge pressure ...If [a female director] does fail, then all of a sudden it's 'all women suck at directing,' " she opined.

Forbes said in its article that some women in the shortlist might include Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty), Mimi Leder ("Deep Impact"), Michelle MacLaren ("Breaking Bad") and Catherine Hardwicke ("Twilight").

Alexander herself was on the list. "Imagine the weight on my shoulders," she told Fast Company. "How many male superhero movies fail? So now, we finally get Wonder Woman with a female director, imagine if it fails. And you have no control over marketing, over budget. So without any control, you carry the f**king weight of gender equality for both characters and women directors. No way."

Alexander noted that WB had not approached her but she had no interest in taking the offer. "I can't say they wouldn't consider me, but they haven't reached out," she said.

Words about WB eying a female director for "Wonder Woman" actually got out last month. A short while later, a rumor list got out to include the aforementioned directors as well as Karyn Kusama ("Jennifer's Body"), Julie Taymor ("Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark") and Tricia Brock ("The Walking Dead").

Gal Gadot will star as the titular superheroine after getting an introduction in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". The "Wonder Woman" movie will hit theaters June 23, 2017.
