Prepare for raining food on your television. "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" is coming to small screen under a new deal made between DHX Media and Sony Pictures Animation, which produced the 2009 computer animated science fiction comedy film.

DHX Media will develop and 26, 22-minute traditionally animated episodes based on the box office hit and its 2013 sequel. The movie itself is adapted from the 1978 children's book of the same name by Judi and Ron Barrett.

" 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' has a tremendous legacy as beloved children's books and a duo of highly popular feature films, showing how great ideas can succeed across media," DXH Media president and COO Steven DeNure said. "We believe audiences both old and new are going to love this fiercely funny franchise re-imagined for the small screen."

Executive producer at Sony Pictures Animation Rick Mischel added, "DHX's track record in creating great kids' television content makes them an ideal partner to capture the unique humor and tone of Flint Lockwood and his friends that made the theatrical franchise so successful."

Flint Lockwood, who is voiced by Bill Hader in the films, is expected to be featured on the TV adaptation along with other familiar faces like new school reporter Sam Sparks, Flint's father Tim, Steve the Monkey, and sardine model Brent McHale. However, it's unknown if any of the original voice cast members will be involved in the small-screen project.

The first movie earned $243 million worldwide on a budget of $100 million. It centers on Lockwood, an eccentric young scientist who lives in Swallow Falls, a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that has sardines as the base of its economy. He invents a machine to make sure nobody ever goes hungry again, but it leads to a disaster.
