'Supergirl' Given Hefty Series Commitment on CBS
TV

The network closed the deal with Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions to bring up the story of Superman's cousin.

CBS has closed a deal on Friday, September 19 to adapt DC Comics' "Supergirl" to small screen. The network has given it a series commitment which "eclipses the series commitment" of Batman drama "Gotham" at FOX, Deadline reports.

The hour-long drama tells the story of Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, who was born on the planet Krypton, but escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with Superman. But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Studio-based Berlanti Prods. will produce with Warner Bros. TV. Greg Berlanti and "The New Normal" scribe Ali Adler will write and executive-produce with Sarah Schechter. DC Entertainment's chief creative officer Geoff Johns, who produced "Arrow" and "The Flash", is also closely involved in the development of the project.

The series commitment means that all five networks will have superhero series on air. FOX has "Gotham", CW has "Arrow", "The Flash" and "iZombie", NBC has "Constantine" while ABC has "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "Marvel's Agent Carter".
