Joan Rivers is on the road to recovery, a source close to her family says. Rivers was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City on Thursday, August 28 after she stopped breathing following a throat procedure and was in critical condition. A source, however, has shared to E! News that Rivers is slowly on the mend.

"It's a slow process, but she's on the road to recovery. She's getting better. Don't believe all this ridiculous speculation," the source says. The source additionally praises Rivers' daughter Melissa Rivers who stays strong as her mother is hospitalized.

"She is a rock. She is calmer than I've ever seen her. All these reports about doomsday are not true. She is her mother's daughter and she's tough as nails. She's the person keeping everyone together," the source says of Melissa. "She's focused on one thing: Her mother's health."

On Sunday, Melissa gave update on her mother's condition in a short statement. "Thank you for your continued love and support. We are keeping our fingers crossed," she said.

A source previously told NY Daily News that doctors had started the process of bringing Rivers out of medically-induced coma. "The waking-up process has begun and will take until Tuesday. There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair," the source claimed.
