Ted Nugent's upcoming concert at a Native American tribe's casino has been canceled. On Monday, July 21, the Coeur d'Alene Tribe said that they decided to axe the show scheduled to take place at the casino in the northwest Idaho city of Worley on August 4 due to the rocker's "racist and hate-filled remarks."

"We know what it's like to be the target of hateful messages and we would never want perpetuate hate in any way," Chief Allan, chairman of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, said of the cancellation in a statement.

It's not clear which Nugent's views the tribe opposes to, but the musician has in the past donned Indian headdress during his concerts and mocked campaigns to change sports team names such as Redskins and Savages. He also made offensive remarks about Barack Obama, referring to the president as a "subhuman mongrel."

Of how Nugent was booked to perform at the casino, executive director of marketing for the Coeur d'Alene Casino Laura Stensgar explained that the tribe wasn't aware of the star's "racist attitudes and views."

"Unfortunately, when we booked him, we were looking at him from an entertainment perspective, as an '80s rock 'n' roller who we thought folks might enjoy," Stensgar said. "We take the comments and concerns of our community very seriously and we apologize to anyone who was offended by the idea that we would promote these kinds of attitudes. We will do our best to avoid such mistakes moving forward."
