After attending a court session on Wednesday, December 3, Nigella Lawson admitted to cocaine and other drugs use from time to time. However, the celebrity chef denied that she is a habitual user like her ex-husband Charles Saatchi described in his private email to her.

Lawson said under legal oath that she first took cocaine when her first husband, John Diamond was terminally ill with cancer. They used it together six times because the drug "gave him some escape". Diamond later died of cancer, and Lawson married Saatchi in 2001.

Lawson once again took cocaine in July 2010 while going through "a very, very difficult time". She said she "felt subjected to intimate terrorism by Mr. Saatchi". At the time she felt "isolated" and "just unhappy", she was offered cocaine by a friend. She took it from time to time and smoked marijuana occasionally in the last year of her marriage to Saatchi. "This was not behavior I'm proud of," she said.

But Lawson insisted, "The idea that I am a drug addict or habitual user of cocaine is absolutely ridiculous." She added that Saatchi is on the road to ruin her, saying he is the control freak type who had threatened to "destroy" her if she did not return to him and "clear his name".

Saatchi and Lawson were divorced in July after photos of him grabbing Lawson by the neck at a London eatery surfaced. He had denied an abuse allegation, saying "I was not gripping, strangling or throttling her. I was holding her head by the neck to make her focus. I wanted her to focus on what we were speaking about."

Saatchi also regretted sending the private email to Lawson when he did not actually see in person her using drugs. "He told everyone that he was taking cocaine out of my nose at Scott's when he knows that is a lie," Lawson said.

Lawson stated in her testimony, "I have to say, since freeing myself from a brilliant but brutal man, I'm now totally cannabis, cocaine, any drug-free." She continued, "I don't have a drug problem. I have a life problem."
