Sidney Poitier Didn't Recognize Sandra Bullock During Encounter
Celebrity

The 'In the Heat of the Night' actor asked, 'Are you an actress?' when Bullock greeted him outside Craig's restaurant.

Sandra Bullock had an awkward moment when meeting Sidney Poitier on Friday night, November 8. The "Gravity" star was outside Craig's restaurant in Hollywood when she saw the Oscar-winning actor talking to some people.

The starstruck Bullock approached the actor, politely waiting for Poitier's conversation to finish before greeting him. In a video obtained by TMZ, the actress can be seen saying, "Excuse me, my name is Sandra Bullock and I just wanted introduce myself."

Poitier apparently failed to recognize the "Miss Congeniality" star. He said, "Are you an actress?" as they shook hands. Shortly after, the Hollywood legend seemed to remembered her, as he said, "No forgive me, you're a great actress!" The two stars jokingly bowed to each other before parting.

The 49-year-old actress, who played medical engineer Dr Ryan Stone in "Gravity" alongside George Clooney, told CNN in a recent interview that the movie was not a female action flick, but a "human action film." She said during the London Film Festival screening, "There is a female and male in it. The point of view is everyone's point of view, it just so happens that I have a female body and I fortunately got to do the part."

"We were very conscious to not make it about the sex - we made it about the situation and the adversities, rather than 'this is a woman in adversity' or a 'man in adversity.' Anyone can put themselves in my character's situation and feel exactly the same," she added.
