Media promotion for new movie about the late royal, "Diana", was recently met with a storm of loud protests in the U.K. and on the social media. The movie's poster placed near the site where the Princess of Wales died with her lover Dodi al Fayed in a fatal 1997 car crash sparked outrage among Lady Di's devotees.

The huge billboard sign stood at the Place de l'Alma, close to the entrance of the Paris tunnel where the accident happened and to the gold Flame of Liberty statue which was unofficially adopted as a memorial to the late royal. The distributor has since removed the poster, simply shrugging it off as "a coincidence."

Rosa Monckton, the Princess' friend, told the Daily Mail, "I really don't have any words to describe how I feel about this cynical and shameless attempt to publicize a film that should never have been made. To have made a film so speculative and as this is disgusting enough, but to then advertise it on the spot at which she died is despicable."

"I cannot imagine that any company could stoop so low," she added. "It is a terrible intrusion into her memory, not to mention the lives of her sons, whose feelings are often forgotten in these stories. I would expect them to take it down right away."

Starring Naomi Watts as Princess Diana, the film will revolve around the last two years of her life after she divorced from Prince Charles. Her relationship with Hasnat Khan (Naveen Andrews) and Fayed (Cas Anvar) will also be featured in it. The drama will arrive in U.S. theaters for a limited release on November 1.
