The veteran rockers call off their Sonic music fest gig due to local promoters' failure to meet obligations.

Rock legend Aerosmith has canceled their scheduled performances in the 2013 Sonic Shanghai Music Festival on August 21 and in "Rock Sonic Day in Kaohsiung" at the 55,000-capacity Kaohsiung National Stadium in Taiwan on August 24. The Bad Boys from Boston have called off the gigs due to the failure of the local promoter to "meet contractual obligations."

"We are extremely upset to have disappointed our dedicated fans," frontman Steven Tyler said in a statement posted on the band's website. "They have welcomed us into their country and due to uncontrollable circumstances we will not be able to perform. We were so excited to share our music with them and look forward to one day returning and giving them the show they deserve."

"We're disappointed as we wanted to play for our fans. We've looked forward to this for a lifetime," expressed guitarist Joe Perry over what would have been their first show in China. Drummer Joey Kramer added, "I sincerely hope Aerosmith will get another opportunity to come back to Shanghai and Taiwan to play for our many fans there."

Local concert promoter Very Aspect Cultural Group said "there were some problems related to technical issues and ticket sales" that originated in Shanghai and spilled over to the Kaohsiung show. It could cost them around $2 million in lost revenue from refunded tickets or purchased ticket prices being slashed due to the non-participation of Aerosmith.
