Amanda Bynes' parents have been granted a temporary conservatorship over the former Nickelodeon star. Ventura County Superior Court Judge Glen Reiser made the decision on Friday, August 9 based on the findings of an investigator he appointed to evaluate Amanda's mental health.

The actress' mother, Lynn Bynes, will now have control over her financial and legal affairs as well as her well beings, including choosing a medical treatment for her once she's released from court-ordered treatment. The judge cautioned the parents not to make any significant deals without consulting with Amanda's lawyer.

The temporary conservatorship will stay in effect until September 30. At that time, a formal hearing will be held to determine whether or not it should be made permanent.

Amanda was not present in court for the Friday hearing as she's "gravely disabled" with mental illness. Earlier in the day, doctors at the psychiatric hospital where she has been staying for two weeks reportedly had an emergency hearing with the judge and suggested that her psychiatric hold to be extended to 30 days. According to TMZ, the judge granted the doctors' request.

Amanda was put on the involuntary hold after she lit a fire on a stranger's driveway in Thousand Oaks, California on July 22. She asked to be released from the facility as her lawyer claimed she would be capable of taking care for herself, but the judge disagreed and turned down her appeal.

The Penny Pingleton of 2007's film "Hairspray" had allegedly also told her lawyer that she opposed the conservatorship, believing it's not necessary.
