David Nevins says, 'There are always things that can be done,' after announcing that 'Dexter' showrunner Scott Buck has inked a two-year overall deal with the network.

"Dexter" legacy may be felt strongly on Showtime after it ends its run later this year. At the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, Showtime entertainment president David Nevins hinted at a possible "Dexter" spin-off.

Nevins got the talk started after announcing that "Dexter" showrunner Scott Buck had signed a two-year overall deal to develop new projects for the network. "We announced a deal with Scott Buck today, draw your own conclusions," he said during the panel on Tuesday, July 30.

Refusing to reveal too much, he told reporters, "It's not necessarily a spinoff." He added, "All options will be explored. We're really not dealing with it at all until we're through this season and maybe for a while thereafter."

"There are always things that can be done," he said when pressed further. "We have a deal with Scott and we're going to develop a bunch of different things with him, there's nothing else to be concluded at this point... There's no sense of whether it will happen and if it will happen but I want to stay in business with Scott."

Buck is already developing a few projects for Showtime, including an adaptation of Matthew Specktor's novel "American Dream Machine", which "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall is on board to executive produce.

"Dexter", which is currently in its eighth and final season, airs Sundays at 9 P.M. on Showtime and is scheduled to wrap up in September. To celebrate the final season, the network and Coolhaus Ice Cream have teamed up to create a "Dexter"-inspired custom ice cream sandwich.
