Gender-bending internet personality B. Scott started a wave of fan support towards him after he revealed on Twitter that he was allegedly told by Black Entertainment Television (BET) that he couldn't wear high heels when he hosted the 2013 BET Awards pre-show. In a series of tweets, the multi-media star came to disclose that he had a last-minute outfit change as a result of the restriction.
"I wasn't going to say anything but my spirit is truly hurt," Scott wrote regarding what seemed to be a discriminatory decision on the part of the show organizers. One follower tweeted in dismay, "Why the hell would @BET invite @lovebscott to work the pre-show and force him to change?"
The androgynous celebrity immediately got some big names to add to his list of supporters, like the former model-turned acting couple of Boris Kodjoe and Nicole Ari Parker. Scott also revealed how a consultant for consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble expressed the company's sentiments with the message, "We at P&G do not support what they are doing to you."
The high heels restriction was deemed by many as "misplaced morality" on the part of BET, in light of some hyper-sexualized performances that graced the BET Awards stage in many instances. The network has yet to react on the alleged discrimination but the controversy is an unfortunate side story to an otherwise successful and star-studded awards show.
