The first teaser video for Peter Jackson's second 'Hobbit' film shows off Bloom as the son of Lee Pace's character Thranduil and Benedict Cumberbatch's titular dragon.

Peter Jackson finally debuts teaser trailer for "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug". For fans' viewing pleasure, the video includes highly-anticipated appearances from Orlando Bloom as Legolas, his iconic role in "The Lord of the Rings" films, as well as the titular dragon, voiced by "Star Trek Into Darkness" villain Benedict Cumberbatch.
Legolas's presence in the movie is unexpected considering he does not even exist in the original "Hobbit" story. Jackson himself has offered an explanation for including the arrow-shooting elf to Entertainment Weekly. "He's [elven king] Thranduil's son, and Thranduil is one of the characters in 'The Hobbit', and because elves are immortal, it makes sense Legolas would be part of the sequence in the Woodland Realm," he said.
Additionally, the preview sees glimpses of new faces in the sequel, including Luke Evans as Laketown warrior Bard of the Bowman, Lee Pace as Legolas' father Thranduil and Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel.
The second film in "Hobbit" film series follows the Dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf who have successfully escaped the Misty Mountains. With Bilbo already gaining the One Ring, they all continue their journey to get their gold back from the Dragon, Smaug.
Headlined by Martin Freeman, "Desolation of Smaug" will hit theaters nationwide on December 13.
