It was believed that Michael Douglas' drinking and smoking habit was the main cause of his throat cancer. However, in a recent interview with The Guardian, the 68-year-old star revealed that his cancer was caused by HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), a sexually transmitted disease.

When the newspaper asked Douglas if he regretted smoking and drinking habit, he replied, "No." He then explained what really caused the illness, saying, "Without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV, which actually comes about from cunnilingus."

The husband of actress Catherine Zeta-Jones went on telling the newspaper that he initially believed that the walnut-sized tumor on his troat came from the stress of son Cameron's legal troubles.

"I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer," Douglas continued. "And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."

Douglas was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer in August 2010, a few month after his first son from his previous marriage to Diandra Luker was arrested for drug possession. After undergoing an intensive course of chemotherapy and radiation, he defeated the cancer in January 2011. Saying that he has medical check-ups every six months, the actor added, "With this kind of cancer, 95 percent of the time it doesn't come back."
