The 2013 Producers Guild Awards announced its nominations on Wednesday, January 2. Ten critically-acclaimed movies in 2012 make it to the list, including Quentin Tarantino's controversial slavery era film "Django Unchained", Steven Spielberg's Presidential drama "Lincoln", and Sam Mendes' James Bond flick "Skyfall".

Ben Affleck's "Argo", which he produces along with George Clooney, also gets nominated, competing with "Life of Pi", "Zero Dark Thirty (2012)", "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Beasts of the Southern Wild". Citics' darlings "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Les Miserables" are also up for the award.

The PGAs also announces the nominees in animated and documentary categories. "Wreck-It Ralph", "Frankenweenie" and "Brave" are among those included in the former category, while "The Gatekeepers" and "Searching for Sugar Man" are among the nominees in the latter one.

Among critics' favorite movies which are snubbed by the PGAs are Peter Jackson's Middle-earth tale "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", P.T. Anderson's cult drama "The Master", and Christopher Nolan's Batman finale "The Dark Knight Rises".

The Producers Guild Awards has been deemed a reliable indicator of the potential Academy Awards contenders. Most of the PGAs nominees are expected to enter the list of Oscar nominations, which will be revealed this coming January 10. For this year's edition, the PGAs winners will be announced during a ceremony in Los Angeles on January 26.
