Canadian rockers Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger are engaged to get married after quietly dating for six months. "He makes her so happy," a family source tells PEOPLE. "Both of their families could not be more excited."
The "Goodbye Lullaby" singer and the Nickelback lead singer started dating after he helped her co-write a song for her fifth studio album. "A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," her friend says.
Chad, 37, popped the question to Avril, 27, on August 8, and presented her with a 14-carat diamond ring. She hasn't said anything about the engagement, but has re-tweeted congratulatory messages from friends. "Congratulations Avril and Chad!" Nickelback tweeted.
It will be Avril's second marriage, and Chad's first. She tied the knot with Sum 41's frontman Deryck Whibley in July 2006 and split from him after three years of marriage. She then dated Brody Jenner. They tattooed each other's names on their bodies.
