Beastie Boys were introduced as one of 2012 Hall of Famers by LL Cool J and Public Enemy's Chuck D. Yauch couldn't came to the event due to health problem, but sent a letter of gratitude read by his bandmates Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and Michael "Mike D" Diamond.

He thanked his parents, who were in attendance that night, and his family. "I'd like to dedicate this award to my brothers, Adam and Mike, who've walked the globe with me," he additionally stated. "To anyone who's been touched by our band, who our music has meant something to, this induction is as much ours as it is yours."

The induction ceremony ended with a photo of Yauch shown on screen with a text that read "In Memory of Adam Yauch". Other late stars who got tribute during the In Memoriam section included Levon Helm and Dick Clark.
