"Sparkle", Whitney Houston's last movie before she died on February 11 this year, has released its first sneak peek. The clip, which was debuted on "Today", did not include a footage of Houston singing but enough of her. '"Keep dancing like that and you'll bring home some kids you can't feed," she joked in one scene.
Houston plays a single mom to three girls, played by Jordin Sparks, Carmen Ejogo and Tika Sumpter, who are eager to form a Motown group. "I always knew you had the gift," she is heard telling her daughters after their performance.
The three Williams sisters begin singing in their church choir in Harlem in the late 1950s and become a successful girl group. Their sudden rise unravels their personal lives. The pic, which is aimed for August 2012 release, was directed by Salim Akil and co-produced by Houston.
"It was definitely her baby," said Sparks in an interview with EW. "You could see the pride on her face when we wrapped. She was so excited that this was finally happening. Even before she passed I wanted to be able to represent this movie in a way that would honor her and respect her, because she worked so hard on it."
