Pearce's Peter Weyland, the owner of The Prometheus, is seen making a convincing speech at a TED conference in 2023, promoting to transform the world through his Weyland Industries.

Shortly after unveiling a direct connection between Guy Pearce's "Prometheus" role and the world in 1979's "Alien", director Ridley Scott along with scribe Damon Lindeloff unleashed a viral clip at the 2012 TED conference on Tuesday, February 28. Featuring Pearce's Peter Weyland, the footage shows the character making a speech at TED in 2023.
In the video, evil-looking Weyland is seen convincingly promoting a world change through his company Weyland Industries. Though the scene will not be featured in the movie, it gives a clue to the background story of the film. The clip itself is designed by Scott and Lindelof and directed by Luke Scott.
Along with the viral campaign, the official TED blog released a note explaining who Weyland really is. It reads, "Peter Weyland has been a magnet for controversy since he announced his intent to build the first convincingly humanoid robotic system by the end of the decade."
"Whether challenging the ethical boundaries of medicine with nanotechnology or going toe to toe with the Vatican itself on the issue of gene-therapy sterilization, Sir Peter prides himself on his motto, 'If we can, we must.' After a three year media blackout, Weyland has finally emerged to reveal where he's heading next. Wherever that may be, we will most certainly want to follow," so the note explains.
Previously director Scott opened up that Weyland is the only direct linkage to "Alien" world. He told Hungarian's FilmSite, "The 'Prometheus' is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. He is the connection between the two films, and nothing more."
"Prometheus" will open wide in the U.S. on June 8. Joining Pearce in the cast ensemble are the likes of Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Ben Foster, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba.
