Zachary Quinto has responded to the alleged "Star Trek 2" on-set picture that has been leaked onto the internet recently. When attending the 2012 Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26, the actor playing Spock in the much awaited sci-fi movie claimed that the photo, which features first look at Benedict Cumberbatch's villainous character, was not taken during the shooting of the anticipated sequel.

Quinto told MTV News that the fight between Cumberbatch's character and Spock shown in the photo "was not an actual scene" that will be featured in the upcoming movie. "The cameras weren't even rolling so...imagine what it'll look like when we're actually doing it," the 34-year-old actor stated.

The actor, who played Peter Sullivan in "Margin Call", went on explaining that he and Cumberbatch were on a small part of the set when someone took the picture. "That happens, I guess. We're on incredibly big set pieces in the middle of somewhere and people sort of got wind of it," he said.

Quinto's "Margin Call" director, J.C. Chandor, was quick to add that he thought his young daughter, who visited the "Star Trek" set that day, was to blame for taking the picture. He, however, insisted that her daughter signed a non-disclosure agreement and is only six years old.

During the red carpet interview, Quinto also spilled the beans that the untitled Star Trek sequel will be shot not only in 3D but also in IMAX. He gushed, "It's definitely bigger, and it requires a different kind of energy. It's been really challenging, but in the best way."

Directed by J.J. Abrams, "Star Trek 2" is due to open wide in the U.S. theaters on May 17, 2013. Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban and John Cho are all set to return as Spock, Nyota Uhura, James T. Kirk, Scotty, Pavel, Bones and Hikaru Sulu respectively.
