Gerard Butler has returned home after reportedly spending the past three weeks in rehab. Shortly after news broke out that the "Law Abiding Citizen" star sought help for his substance abuse issues at the Betty Ford Center in California, his representative released a statement to the press, offering an update on his status.
In the statement issued on Friday, February 24, a spokesperson for the 42-year-old announced, "Gerard has completed a successful course of treatment and has returned home in good health." While confirming that the actor indeed checked himself into rehab, the rep kept further details under wrap as saying, "We will not be making any further comment at this time."
News of Butler seeking professional help was earlier brought to attention by TMZ. The gossip site reported that the Hollywood actor decided to enter rehab after realizing he was becoming reliant on prescription drugs. It was said that he didn't want it to develop into "a full-blown addiction".
Accordingly, the Milo Boyd of "The Bounty Hunter" began struggling with pain management while shooting for "300". It got worse after he got injured in a surfing accident during the filming of Jay Moriarty's biopic "Of Men and Mavericks".
Butler himself has been open about his past struggles with alcohol. In an interview with The Red Bulletin, he confessed, "I used to drink until I couldn't remember anything. I was just mad for it and on a death wish. It was madness." He added, "One or two drinks was never enough for me. I was a foot-on-the-floor-all-the-way-drinker, so it had to go. I don't miss it. Now it's as if I never had a drink in my life."
