Woody Allen bags his fifth Original Screenplay award for 'Paris', while Alexander Payne grabs his third Adapted Screenplay prize for 'Descendants' at this year's Writers Guild of America Awards.

The 2012 Writers Guild of America Awards has announced its winners on Sunday, February 19. In the movie field, Woody Allen claimed his fifth WGA Best Original Screenplay award thanks to his works in "Midnight in Paris", while Alexander Payne took home his third Best Adapted Screenplay prize for his work in "The Descendants" along with co-writers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash.
As for the Best Documentary Screenplay, the award went to Katie Galloway and Kelly Duane de la Vega. The scribe duo won the kudo for their work in "Better This World", defeating other critically acclaimed documentaries like "Pina", "If a Tree Falls", "Senna" and "Nostalgia for the Light".
The WGA also handed out Paul Selvin Award to "The Help" writer/director Tate Taylor, and Laurel Award to veteran screenwriter Eric Roth.
Meanwhile, a number of Oscar-nominated movies were ineligible for the WGA Awards because of its rules that restrict eligible screenplays to those written under the guild's Minimum Basic Agreement, or under similar agreements from one of five affiliated international guilds.
Those films which were not eligible for the WGA Awards include "The Artist", "Margin Call" and "A Separation" for Original Screenplay, as well as "The Ides of March" and "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" for Adapted Screenplay.
The 2012 WGA Awards was held in simultaneous ceremonies on both coasts at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and at B.B. King Blues Club in New York City. In addition to movie winners, the WGA announced its winners in TV. It was unveiled that "Homeland" and "Breaking Bad" were among the big winners in TV categories.
