Katy Perry and Taylor Swift were musical guests at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 12. The former treated the crowd flooding Los Angeles' Staples Center with her two singles "E.T." and "Part of Me", while the latter crooned her ballad track "Mean".
Katy's music "E.T." kicked off her set before it dramatically stopped. She later appeared above the crowd singing "Part of Me". The lyrics which included such lines as "You chewed me and spit me out like I was poison in your mouth" were quickly speculated as a subtle reference to her doomed relationship with Russell Brand.
Taylor, meanwhile, channeled her inner small town girl for her performance. Introduced by her "Safe & Sound" collaborators The Civil Wars, she strummed her banjo and sang the anti-bullying anthem. She additionally fired back at her haters by delivering lyrics, "Someday I'll be singing this at the Grammys."
Katy won none at the awards show. She was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance, but she lost both of them to Adele. Meanwhile, Taylor swept clean her two nods by winning Golden Gramophones for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song.
