AceShowbiz - The official poster for the 84th Academy Awards has been unveiled less than a month away from its nominations announcement. On Wednesday, December 28, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences brought forth a first look of the one-sheet that pays homage to eight notable motion pictures across eight decades.

Adorned with three words, "Life. Camera. Action," the artwork features the gold man next to images from "Gone with the Wind", "Casablanca", "Giant", "The Sound of Music", "The Godfather", "Driving Miss Daisy", "Forrest Gump" and "Gladiator". Seven of those movies won Best Picture, while one, namely "Giant", earned George Stevens a Best Director kudo.

The newly-released poster, which design "is meant to evoke the emotional connections we all have with the movies", also includes a tagline toward the bottom that reads, "Celebrate the movies in all of us." It was created by graphic designer Anthony Goldschmidt with Mark and Karen Crawford of the design firm Blood&Chocolate.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Academy President Tom Sherak said, "Whether it's a first date or a holiday gathering with friends or family, movies are a big part of our memory. The Academy Awards not only honor the excellence of these movies, but also celebrate what they mean to us as a culture and to each of us individually."

2012 Oscars will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, February 26. It will be televised live starting at 7 P.M. EST/4 P.M. PST on ABC, and mark Billy Crystal's ninth time hosting the ceremony. Its nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 24 at 5:30 A.M. PST in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
