Praised for his distinguished roles in 'The Tree of Life' and 'Moneyball', the actor is also chosen because of the 'depth and versatility of his performances'.

AceShowbiz - This January 7, Brad Pitt would have to travel to the Palm Springs Convention Center to receive an honor for his last two films. The 47-year-old is set to receive 23rd Palm Springs International Film Festival's Desert Palm Achievement Actor Award for his lead role in "Moneyball" and supporting turn in "The Tree of Life".

"Brad Pitt consistently mesmerizes audiences with the depth and versatility of his performances. He has the rare ability to interpret and capture the most complicated facets of human nature, infusing his roles with strength and emotion," festival chairman Harold Matzner said. "In 'The Tree of Life', he portrays a father whose sensitive son tries to make sense of their relationship and understand the wrongs of a difficult childhood. In 'Moneyball', he faces failure head on and draws upon his dormant, though fierce competitive nature to become a standout in the world of major league baseball management."

This coming year would be a shining moment for the actor. He has received the best actor award from New York Film Critics Circles and a best actor nomination from the Broadcast Film Critics Association for both films. He has also just received best male actor in a leading role nomination from the Screen Actors Guild for "Moneyball". The actor previously said that he plans to retire from the industry in three years.
