Starz has announced on Monday, November 7 that it picks up the show for a third season although the second season, which is called "Spartacus: Vengeance", has not been debuted yet. The yet-to-be titled third season is scheduled to begin the production in early 2012 in New Zealand.

"There is no denying the impact 'Spartacus' has had in the marketplace with fans across the globe thirsting for the continuation of the epic tale," says Starz Media managing director Carmi Zlotnik when announcing the renewal. "We are thrilled to come to an early agreement that allows the writers and talent to get right back to work in preparing for season three"

"Spartacus: Vengeance", which serves as a follow-up to "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", will premiere on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 10 P.M. with Liam McIntyre replacing the late Andy Whitfield in the title role. Zlotnik gushes about the show, " 'Vengeanace' brings unparalleled action and drama to Starz viewers in January."
