Ashley Greene will add a twist to an "ultramodern take" of Charles Dickens' classic novel "Oliver Twist". The actress famous for her portrayal of Alice Cullen in the "Twilight Saga" film series has been locked to bring to life a female version of the famous character in "Olivia Twisted".

In the project announced on Tuesday, September 13 at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, Greene will play 19-year-old Olivia. Along with a group of highly trained street urchins, she accepts a kidnapping job before finding themselves in the middle of a turf war between warring criminal factions.

Written by a first-time scribe Michael Roberts, "Olivia Twisted" will be produced by Michael De Luca, Alissa Phillips, Frank Mancusi Jr as well as Eric Gores. Variety reported that it will "combine Dickensian elements with a Gothic backdrop." The project will see another collaboration of Greene and DeLuca after "Butter".

Dickens' classic novel has been adapted to the big screen many times before. Its latest movie adaptation was Roman Polanski's "Oliver Twist" that stars Barney Clark and was released in 2005. Walt Disney Pictures has also released an animated version of the story in 1988. Titled "Oliver and Company", it features an orange cat as the lead character.
