TV

His role on the sitcom is finally revealed and unlike previous speculations, his character is not one of the Harpers.

The mystery is solved, Ashton Kutcher is not going to replace Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper on "Two and a Half Men". Instead, he's an Internet billionaire named Walden Schmidt who is broken-hearted for a reason which is still shielded from the audience.

CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler however would not confirm or deny whether Charlie Harper is killed off with the season premiere featuring his funeral. She also did not explain how Schmidt will enter the picture but said that he is not related to Alan Harper and his son Jake.

"We have an extraordinary actor in Ashton Kutcher. You have someone who is committed to doing their job and is incredibly professional," Tassler said, adding that Kutcher is "an extraordinarily talented, funny and gifted actor."

Kutcher had his first table read on Monday, August 1 and "the anticipation was great". Tassler said creator Chuck Lorre opened the session with a "touching speech" and the cast and writers have "embraced" Kutcher.

The premiere episode will be taped on Friday night and Tassler said, "I'd be lying if I said you could cut the (tension) with a knife" of the Monday rehearsal. "They're very focused ... there's a tremendous amount of weight and effort being put into this episode."
