Marvel Studios has issued a press release to announce that the veteran actor has been cast as the US Army Colonel, joining Chris Evans, Stanley Tucci and many more.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" has almost cast all the lead roles. Following reports that Tommy Lee Jones is added to the stars line-up in the film, Marvel Studios has just released a statement to confirm that the actor indeed joins the project to play US Army Colonel Chester Phillips.
The press release also gives a bit explanation about Jones' character, mentioning that Phillips recruited Steve Rogers to join Project Rebirth, the secret experiment that created the Super Soldier known as Captain America, in the early comics. However, in the film the character will be updated.
Thus, Jones joins Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving and Stanley Tucci who have been cast earlier. Evans plays the titular character with Stan portraying his sidekick, Bucky Barnes. Atwell is Captain America's love interest Peggy Carter, while Weaving is tapped to be the movie villain, Red Skull. As for Tucci, he is cast as Dr. Abraham Erskine.
"The First Avenger: Captain America" follows Steve Rogers military service washout who volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America and tries to fit in his new image. Joe Johnston is on board to direct it with plan to start shooting this summer in England for July 22, 2011 U.S. release.
Tommy Lee Jones is well known for starring in two "Men in Black" films and "No Country for Old Men". He will be next seen in "The Company Men" which is set for fall release in the U.S. and also features Ben Affleck and Kevin Costner.
