Bryan Singer has announced his return to "X-Men" franchise. Attending "Avatar" premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday, December 16, the filmmaker who has directed the first two "X-Men" movies revealed to reporters that he has signed on to direct "X-Men: First Class".

"I'm ramping up to do a movie called 'Jack the Giant Killer' at Warner Bros., and I just yesterday signed a deal to do an 'X-Men: First Class Origins' picture, which is kind of cool. I'm very excited," Singer said when asked about his next projects. His interview during the event can be seen at Avatar Movie Official MySpace Profile.

Bryan Singer gained recognition through his work in "The Usual Suspects". After successfully making "X-Men" and "X-Men 2", he passed on "X-Men: The Last Stand" to make "Superman Returns".

"X-Men: First Class" is said to focus on certain X-Men characters like Cyclops but as teens. Otherwise, it could focus on some of the students attending the mutant school introduced in the "X-Men" movies. Josh Schwartz has been hired by 20th Century Fox to pen the script, but no actors have been tapped to star in the film.
