The list extends from the critically-praised 'The Hurt Locker' to the Emmys-voters snubbed 'True Blood'.

This year's Top 10 movies and TV shows selected by the American Film Institute (AFI) have been announced with "The Hurt Locker" and "True Blood" included within the list. The organization will honor the creative ensembles at a gala held at Los Angeles' Four Seasons Hotel on January 15 as part of the 10th Annual AFI Awards.

AFI made the list based on "most outstanding achievements in film and television". Comprised of 13 scholars, film artists, critics and AFI trustees, the judges include director Norman Jewison, Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black and president of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences John Shaffner.

"The Hurt Locker" in particular is already a winner on Los Angeles Critics Awards (LACA), National Board of Review and New York Film Critics Online. In LACA, the Iraq war drama won both Best Movie and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow. "Up in the Air" which is also included in AFI's list is the runner up of LACA's Best Movie.

In the TV genre, "True Blood" becomes one of the shows that have been snubbed by Emmy Awards voters, Variety reported. "Mad Men" meanwhile, makes the list again after being given the same honor last year.
