AceShowbiz - When the monster movie "Cloverfield" hit the theaters back in January, it created such a buzz that it went on to rake in as much as $170.5 million worldwide. Seeing the enthusiastic responds from moviegoers, online publications started to speculate about a sequel which get a positive nod from the film's filmmakers. However, words around "Cloverfield 2" kept on going in and out ever since generating questions whether it would be done or not.
On the latest report outed by Sci Fi Wire, it is said that any further plans on the sequel have been put on hold until the filmmakers can come out with great idea like the first one. Revealing about the decision was director Matt Reeves in an interview at the Saturn Awards in Universal City, California, on June 24. "The thing that we sort of promised ourselves is we only wanted to do another one if we could come up with something that felt as fresh to us to make as that one did," shared the co-creator of television drama "Felicity".
Adding to his explanation, Reeves confessed, "We're still kind of toying with what it's going to be and whether or not we're going to find something that will be as exciting for us to make and, hopefully, for an audience to watch. So we'll see. It's really in the baby, baby stages. And right now it's definitely on hold until we come up with what that would be."
Earlier, it has been reported that some of the idea tossed around were that the film may serve as a prequel to the original film or it may tell a parallel story set on the same night of the attack. Giving his insight on the matter, Reeves gushed, "We did talk about that, and I think that we would find some way, if we did it. Some of the ideas we've come up with reference this idea and reference the film, so that there is a sense that it's related to this film. But it would be different. I would need [it] to be really different."
Directed by Reeves and co-produced by J.J. Abrams, "Cloverfield" tells the story of a monster attack in New York City. The story is being delivered using the recorded tape of a video camera from five young New Yorkers who become witnesses as well as victims of the monster. Starring %cMike Vogel%, %cLizzy Kaplan%, %cJessica Lucas%, %cT.J. Miller% and %cMichael Stahl-David%, the action thriller has been released on January 18.
