Laurence Fishburne, along with indie studio A-Mark Entertainment, has obtained the film rights to his starring/writing/directing vehicle "The Alchemist."

Taking full control on the flick, Laurence Fishburne has teamed up with indie studio A-Mark Entertainment to secure feature rights to "The Alchemist" from Warner Brothers Entertainment, Inc..

Fishburne initially was confirmed to take starring part in the project in late December 2005 as well as to pen the script and direct. Not only that, he will also produce alongside "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy producer Barrie Osborne and Helen Sugland, whom he previously joined forces with in producing "Akeelah and the Bee."

Based on the Paulo Coelho famous adventure novel, "Alchemist" concerns a young Spaniard names Santiago who embarks on a quest to find a hidden treasure within the Egyptian pyramids. A-Mark co-chairmen Steve Markoff and Bruce McNall are both coming onboard to executive produce.
