Being famous has its ups and downs and apparently those things never come easy for Justin Hawkins, the lead singer of glam rock band The Darkness. The 31-year-old man is quitting the band that made him famous, blaming problems with alcohol and cocaine as the reason.

Confirming his decision to leave the band, the singer told the Sun newspaper Wednesday Oct 11th "it's time for me to move on" while adding "It would be damaging to my recovery to stay on. I'm not blaming the band for my problem -- I am an addict."

Hawkins entered rehab back in August, during which the Darkness insisted it would hit the studio as soon as he was well, and denied rumors that it had been dropped by Atlantic Records.

As of Hawkins' quit, the remaining band members wrote on the Darkness message board (https://www.thedarknessrock.com): "We ... are still in total shock and can't say at this stage what the future holds. You will hear from us, once we know what we want to do."
