Being given a PG rating instead of a G rating, "Facing the Giants" has worked its way to the Congress as House Majority Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo., and other lawmakers have lined-up together to demand explanations from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) following complaints that the movie was rated so due to religious content.

In his letter to MPAA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dan Glickman, Blunt expressed his dissatisfaction of the association's decision concerning the matter. "This incident raises the disquieting possibility that the MPAA considers exposure to Christian themes more dangerous for children than exposure to gratuitous sex and violence," so he wrote.

In response to Blunt's objection, Glickman, however, insisted that the appliance of the rating was not based on the religious content, but rather on other subjects found in the movie. "Any strong or mature discussion of any subject matter results in at least a PG rating," said Glickman in his letter. "This movie had a mature discussion about pregnancy, for example. It also had other mature discussions that some parents might want to be aware of before taking their kids to see this movie."

While Blunt's side has revealed intention to revisit this ratings process and to get the House Energy and Commerce Committee to hold hearings on the issue later this year, the film's marketer, Provident Films, on the other hand, preferred not to take part in the debate and keeps moving on beyond controversy to put focus on marketing the film instead. The picture itself tells about a dramatic story of a high school football coach who relies on faith to battle fear and failure.
