there is a lot to love in this film; the film makes up for some of the missed storytelling opportunities with its stylish, exciting action sequences, and its swift pacing, all of which combined make for a fun, overall enthralling time
the slick thriller goes down smoothly; The graphic novel-inspired world of "Gunpowder Milkshake" isn't unique, but it's admirably committed and Papushado edges his film away from the danger of pastiche thanks to an equally committed cast
the film offers too little of interest for its leading ladies to do, and feels throughout like an adaptation of a comic book that was written for the sole purpose of being sold to an IP-hungry film studio
the emotional highs and lows never really level out, and the special effects feel more schlocky and dated than overtly stylistic, but Gunpowder Milkshake manages to corral a dynamic roster of performers to have fun and blow shit up
it skates by on its roster of female leads, clearly having an absolute blast, and a slew of well-crafted action set pieces; it brings style, infectious energy from its protagonists, and several memorable action sequences that deliver enough amusing fun
a winking, whimsical mix of "Bad Times at the El Royale", "Dick Tracy", every Tarantino film ever made, the "John Wick" universe, and uncloying feminist theory, the whole thing is just fun, sugary as a milkshake, with no brain freeze to worry about
