When a Caucasian teenage boy and young African American girl are found dead near a neighborhood playground, Detectives Cyrus Lupo and Ed Green have trouble getting witnesses to talk after realizing the boy was targeted and the girl was killed accidentally. Two brothers and friends of the murdered boy, Andy and Josh Steel, lead the detectives to a local kid, Will Manning. Ultimately, its Will's father Ray Manning who admits to being the shooter. Ray's defense is that he feared for his son's life when he saw three boys chasing Will with baseball bats. This new information leads the detectives to suspect the Steel brothers and their overly aggressive mother, Gretchen. With racial tensions high in the community, the DA's office must decide how to charge and prosecute the case.
