After a night of passion in a hotel room, Kylie Sinclair assures Robert that today's the day they stage a coup d'état on the government of the United States. She helps Admiral Shepard set up a video chat with Marcus regarding what's about to go down in Washington. The person who was supposed to bring the incriminating flash drive to Speaker of the House Conrad Buell is missing. Actually, she's dead thanks to a supposed "accident." Kylie has no choice but to be the messenger instead.

Zheng lets Marcus know about the valuable minerals found in the island's soil. If they form an alliance, they have an opportunity to have economic freedom. BOOM! An incoming Chinese supply ship is seen smoking and sinking in the distance after an explosion. The crew is injured but alive. Marcus assures Zheng that he's trying to determine what happened. He has no idea that a team of Prosser's mutinous men set the charges that sunk the ship. They are plotting to overthrow the captain. To do so, they need more guns. That's why the COB makes a deal with his nemesis, Serrat.

Petty Officer Brannan has been working with Prosser and the others. In truth, he's actually serving as a spy for Marcus. Sam convinces Prosser to give him a little time to talk to the captain before storming the castle. He first tries to get Grace to switch teams. When Sam finally does talk with Marcus, he learns about the coup being led by Admiral Shepard. The captain asks for just a few more hours. After that, they'll be able to surrender the Colorado. They'll be able to go home.

Tani returns to say that she's leaving the island to take her brother back to Australia. She's thrilled when James asks to go with her. That may not be possible though. Sam gives James a list of people who can never take over the Colorado if something should happen to both him and the captain. He's to take them out by any means necessary. James has no choice but to cut all ties with Tani. He tells her he slept with Grace, who may have to step up and lead if things go sideways. If that happens, James says that he'll stand with her.

Sophie is platonically living with Serrat. She wonders if she has a future with a still-grieving Sam. She looks stunning in the red dress Serrat gave to her for the nighttime celebration taking place in the middle of the island. On the outskirts of where all the dancing is taking place, Prosser and his men are preparing to make their move. Marcus informs the COB that he knows what he's doing as he waits patiently for news from home.

In Washington, Kylie hands over the flash drive to Conrad Buell. The Speaker of the House gets a text message that rattles him. He steps in front of Congress to address the nation about the secrecy and lies plaguing the country. While this is happening, an emotional Admiral Shepard places a call to Grace, who on has the Conn on the Colorado. He just wanted to hear her voice. Grace wants to know what's going on, but her father hangs up without giving her an answer. As for Speaker Buell, something is whispered in his ear. He then asks for forgiveness before pulling out a gun and shooting himself dead.

News of Buell's suicide reaches the island. Sam lets Marcus know that the crew has lost faith in him. He claims that he has Grace on his side. Marcus wants proof. He radios the Colorado. Grace is to fire on flare if she's with Sam, two if she's with Marcus. Two flares light up the sky. What no one on the island knows is that, on the Colorado, Grace is being held at gunpoint by the formerly incarcerated senior nuke-rated chief, Hal Anders. In Washington, Kylie is shuffled into the back of a car where her father is waiting for her. She's shocked when he later leaves the car to board Air Force One.
