Lacey heads to Gemenon, per Clarice's orders, to begin her STO training, but the trip is not what it seems. No sooner does her transport ship reach orbit, but it is boarded by polytheistic zealots intent on converting all the young recruits back to the old ways. If they don't relent, they die. Lacey and the other students whisper frantically, trying to carve a plan, but time is running out and the mercenaries are picking them off one by one. Finally, Lacey's frustration and fear overcome her. She picks up a loose bar and wields it brutally to her advantage, but when she trades that for the butt of a rifle of an overpowered guard, the group leader, Diego, bursts in and informs them that it was all a simulation to see which of the recruits would thrive and which would crumble under pressure. At the STO compound, Lacey welcomes the praise for her promising performance, but her new friend, Odin, secretively shows her a chilling sight: the weaker recruits being executed by a Cylon.

Clarice, knowing that a backup of Zoe's avatar program is in a gold pin, demands that her GDD contact retrieve it from the Graystone evidence file. But this missing evidence tips Jordan to the fact that the leak in his agency is top brass, so he lays a trap: when requisitioning a bug so that Amanda can get pertinent info, he tells his superior that his informant is Clarice's wife, Marbeth. The trap springs: Clarice murders Marbeth, and Jordan knows he can't trust his superior - and he also has the bug in Clarice's house.

Although Graystone Industries are stronger, financially, Daniel has a problem in the Guattrau, who has been selling Cylons to the STO. If caught, Daniel could be executed for treason, and Sam is outraged that the weaponry isn't going to Tauron freedom fighters. Daniel demands a one-on-one with the Guattrau, in which he warns him of the expense this venture will take on the Avatar program. The Guattrau agrees to hold the export for two weeks, during which time Daniel must complete the Avatar program. But the Guattrau informs Sam and Joseph that either way, Daniel must die.

But all the Graystone strife may be for naught, as Clarice has discovered the Avatar program right where Lacey said it would be, in the pin.
