Wine of the week: 2008 La Fenetre A Cote Syrah, Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard, Santa Barbara County - After last week, a spicy red was definitely in order, and with all the flash-backing going on in the 2 hour event I think I was sent back to a time when wine was just a little bit more traditional... This wine has spice notes that you might not often find in a typical central coast Syrah. At 14.5% alcohol, this wine is tame by California standards and will pair nicely with a family dinner of Roasted Squab with root vegetables (hint, hint). Will Kevin be able to snap back into the present? I vote yes as all of the Walkers always find a way to come back to what really matters... family and, of course, wine. Cheers!

Kevin can't bring himself to forgive Nora for not telling him that his actions caused an accident that paralyzed a boy named Aaron 25 years ago. He's made it perfectly clear that he doesn't want to see or talk to his mother. That doesn't stop Nora from planning a big party to celebrate Kevin's 39th birthday. We're not sure how happy of a birthday bash it'll be if the guest of honor is a no-show.

All the boxes around the house serve as an unpleasant reminder that Luc's visa runs out in two weeks. Luc has faith that everything will work out. Sarah tries to adopt a similar attitude. That's not easy when she learns that Ojai is about be stripped of all operating capital. The bank will seize the building and the land in about a week. Dennis York will be able to buy Ojai from the receiver for a song. The family will end up with nothing.

Rebecca wonders why Holly didn't invest the two million dollars she gave her to invest in the company. The money would certainly buy them some time, but Holly wants Rebecca to have that money for her future. Out of options, Tommy, Kevin and Justin decide to meet with York to try to strike a deal.

Behind her mother's back, Rebecca transfers all of her money into Ojai's cash account. Before Holly can read her daughter the riot act, she tells everyone she has the results of the geological survey on Narrow Lake. Too bad it's 14 pages of data that just doesn't add up. The mystery behind Narrow Lake continues.

When the Walker brothers meet with Dennis York, they explain that he no longer has any blackmail leverage now that Kevin knows the truth. They also know about Narrow Lake. Unfortunately, York realizes that they don't have a clue as to why it's so valuable. The boys make York a small percentage offer for the info. That offer is rejected. Rebecca's money can't last forever. York says he'd rather just wait for them to fail.

Robert is being very evasive about a new job opportunity. Apparently, it's top secret, hush-hush stuff. The only thing he can tell Kitty is that if he gets the gig it'll mean relocating to Washington. Kitty knows that they'd have to be in DC whenever Congress is in session should she win the election. Still, she needs time to process the possibility of a cross-country move. She also has to figure out a way to break the news to Nora.

As Nora cooks up a storm for the birthday celebration that will never be, Kitty and Sarah try to bring her back to reality. In truth, Nora doesn't believe Kevin is coming either. But that's not going to snap her out of party-planning mode. When Kitty gets a text from Robert, she floats the notion of a possible move to DC. Nora takes the news surprisingly well and keeps prepping for the party.

Eventually, Nora realizes that Kevin really isn't coming. She tells everyone they are free to head home. As Nora is packing up the food in storage containers, Kevin steps into the kitchen. He wants to know if the reason she didn't tell him about Aaron is because his dad thought he was weak. Nora believes William never knew who he was and Kevin did. That probably scared him.

Kevin says he didn't know who he was. The reason he hit Aaron that night is because he tried to kiss him. He was so scared of how he was feeling that he didn't want anyone to know he was gay. Nora says she always knew. She was just waiting for him to find out for himself. Kevin thinks it's going to take a long time for him to deal with everything. But he does want to talk about it. Nora says, "Then that's what we'll do. We'll talk."

Luc tells Sarah that even if he gets on that plane in two weeks, he will find a way to come back home to her. In other travel news, plans for a possible relocation for the McCallister clan go up in smoke. Robert's heart issues have cost him that top secret gig. Instead of dwelling on the negative, he and Kitty opt to celebrate the positive, as Kevin's birthday bash is back on!

The troops reconvene at Nora's place. It's a night of good food and great wine as everyone takes turns toasting their current bouts of misfortune. It's all done in fun. The good times continue when Kevin and Scotty get a call that they are one step closer to having a baby. This turned out to be a happy birthday after all.
